West Ham United have entered the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira before the transfer window closes on Monday, September 1, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The 25-year-old Portuguese playmaker, who has struggled to secure consistent minutes under Mikel Arteta, is also attracting interest from Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. However, Stuttgart reportedly view Arsenal’s €30–35 million valuation as too high, with the German side reluctant to exceed €20 million.

Vieira joined the Gunners from FC Porto in 2022 for an initial €35 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, but has failed to establish himself at the Emirates. After a productive loan spell back at Porto last season, where he registered five goals and six assists in 42 appearances, he returned to Arsenal but was left out of the club’s pre-season tour, signalling his availability for transfer.

West Ham’s interest comes as manager Graham Potter looks to strengthen his squad following a sluggish start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Despite the arrivals of Matheus Fernandes and Soungotou Magassa, the Hammers are seeking more creativity to replace Mohammed Kudus, who departed this summer, and to address uncertainty around Lucas Paqueta’s future.

Vieira’s technical qualities and playmaking ability are seen as a strong fit for Potter’s fluid midfield system.

Stuttgart remain in contention and have held talks with Arsenal over a permanent move, as they seek a replacement for outgoing midfielder Enzo Millot. But with financial negotiations stalling, West Ham may have an opportunity to move ahead if they can meet Arsenal’s demands.

Vieira’s time in England has been underwhelming, just three goals and ten assists in 49 appearances but his standout 2021/22 season with Porto, where he led the Primeira Liga with 14 assists, highlights the talent that could still be unlocked in the right environment.

With the transfer deadline looming, the coming days will be decisive in determining whether Vieira secures a move to West Ham, Stuttgart, or elsewhere, as Arsenal look to offload fringe players to balance their squad.
