Unai Emery emphasises ‘it’s good to have’ such a strong home record

The Aston Villa coach connected with the fans again ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace. Keen to cling onto the unbeaten record, he stressed how this form has been “good to have” in the last year.

‘Our start this season has been poor’

The team have not lost at **Villa Park**since a 2-0 defeat to **Arsenal**last August. The group held onto that record when a red card for Ezri Konsa left them with ten men in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, so it is a source of deep pride and one that might motivate them to earn their first victory.

*“It’s good to have it. Really, we are feeling strong in Villa Park and playing in Villa Park, I am really happy with our supporters. We are feeling strong, with the energy we are creating in Villa Park.”*

The Basque believed the result on opening day was a good one in the end, but it is not enough.

“It was a good point against Newcastle for the circumstances how we played and finished this match, but now, again, we want to be unbeaten and we want to be strong at home.”

Emery would have wanted to address the ropey record from last season on the road, but the offensive performance was pale in a 1-0 defeat at **Brentford**last week. Now, his men have only one point from the first six available, and a victory will be vital to kickstart the 2025/26 campaign for the Villans.

“Our start this season has been poor. One point from six, and of course, even being unbeaten at home, we are again remembering how we lost last year, points at home, drawing a lot of matches in a row.”

‘We need positive energy’

Returning to the topic of Villa Park, the manager mentioned the significance of strong support.

“The energy is very important, but we need positive energy, if we manage it in the right direction.”

It has been one of the pillars of the project for the 53-year-old, who called the fans to action again.

*“The energy in Villa Park is the start for the supporters, how they are supporting, helping, how they push us in Villa Park. Then it’s energy we can show them, transmitting, playing intense, dominating.”*

Palace earned a 2-2 draw at Villa Park last November and are one of the best teams in the Premier League this year, losing only four games in 2025. It will be a battle to hold onto that unbeaten run.

“These consequences, coming with the good results, and on Sunday against Crystal Palace is our challenge to keep it, one match more. Crystal Palace is our challenge and it’s our motivation with our supporters in Villa Park to get those three points and continue unbeaten and building the team.”

Emery is excited about trying to beat them for the first time since the start of the 2023/24 season.

*“On Sunday against Crystal Palace, especially how we performed against them the last two years, I think it’s really a huge challenge I am excited, motived, and I want to try to show our capacity.”*
