Newcastle United have maintained a dignified silence on the Alexander Isak saga in order to focus on today's clash at Leeds United.

Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle will be happy to try to re-integrate the Sweden star IF and try to conjure up a partnership with new boy Nick Woltemade.

The Magpies - as of Saturday afternoon at 3pm - had not received an offer, approach or contact from Liverpool.

However, with Isak holding out for talks to be resurrected with Liverpool, the Merseyside club has briefed journalists on the Anfield patch that talks have not yet resumed with Newcastle.

A £130m bid had been mooted by former Middlesbrough striker Jan Age Fjortoft who also went as far as saying: "Deal is done!"

But that has been denied at the Liverpool end, and while the situation is still potentially active until Monday, Newcastle have insisted there is no change for now.

Fjørtoft said: "Understand Isak - deal is done! Newcastle away at Leeds tonight, so nothing expected before that I am told.

"Fee expected to be around £130m, Isak to Liverpool likely to happen very soon."

Howe also stated that the situation was not in his hands after passing the saga on to PIF while he focuses on the team.

The United head coach said yesterday: "As I’ve said, that is for other people to decide. I’m not in control of those discussions and talks.

"I’m focusing on trying to bring players into the team."

When asked if new signing Nick Woltemade and Isak could play together yesterday, Howe said: "Yeah, of course, but one isn’t available to pick and one we haven’t signed, so that gives it a bit of context."

Reacting to a question on whether Isak could be re-integrated, Howe said: "I’ve answered that one many times. Yes, he’s contracted to us."
