Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has finalized his plan for QB Justin Fields and others in the preseason finale.

The New York Jets pivoted from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a dynamic dual threat QB in Justin Fields with hopes the risky move will pay off with the organization finally finding a long-term solution under center.

Well, one NFL analyst believes Fields could be a risky investment at the quarterback position for fantasy football managers entering the 2025 NFL season

Justin Fields Named a Sleeper QB Option for Fantasy Football in 2025

Gray Deyo of Sports Illustrated still has some reservations about Justin Fields’ outlook in his first year with the New York Jets, but still named the Ohio State product as a sleeper option at the QB position entering fantasy football drafts this weekend.

Deyo wrote, “The way he can outplay this rank is with his dual-threat capabilities. In 2022, in Chicago, he ran for 1,143 yards. In 2023, for the Bears, he then rushed for 657 yards. In his last year at Pittsburgh ran for 289 yards through ten games. Fields’ fantasy relevance weighs heavily on whether he uses his wheels again like he once did. If he plays as more of a pocket passer, his fantasy value will likely trend down. It is a risky pick to make in taking Fields in fantasy, but it is one that could pay off heavily.”

Fields’ immense upside as a fantasy asset come from his days with the Chicago Bears, where he finished as the QB7 overall in 2022 with 1,143 rushing yards and eight scores to go with 2,242 passing yards and 17 scores in just 15 games.

Pat Fitzmaurice of FantasyPros felt a bit lukewarm regarding Fields’ outlook but does believe he will have every opportunity to be the starter under center for the entirety of the season.

Fitzmaurice wrote, “The Jets have tabbed Justin Fields to be their quarterback of the (near) future, giving him a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million in guaranteed money. After an uneven three-year run with the Bears, Fields was traded to the Steelers last year and started the first six games of the season for Pittsburgh before being benched in favor of Russell Wilson. Rushing production is Fields’ fantasy calling card. In 2022, Fields ran for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games, finishing QB6 in fantasy scoring. Last year, Fields ranked QB7 in fantasy points per game (19.1) over the first six weeks of the season before Wilson replaced him. Fields’ productivity as a passer has been a mixed bag, but with Tyrod Taylor as the second-best QB on the Jets’ roster, Fields will have a lot of leeway as he settles in with his new team.”

Does Fields Have Enough Around Him in the Passing Game to Produce a Career Year Through the Air in 2025?

Fields has a true WR1 with Garrett Wilson anchoring the wideout room but doesn’t have much else on the roster that will strike much fear into opposing defenses through the air.

Names like Allen Lazard, Josh Reynolds, Arian Smith, and Mason Taylor aren’t likely to elevate this passing attack much in 2025. This doesn’t exactly bode well for Fields having a breakout year as a passer entering his fifth year in the league.

Fields will have to rely heavily on his legs and Wilson being a special talent at wide receiver for Fields to possibly sneak inside the top 5 at the QB position in fantasy football.

His elite rushing upside makes it feasible behind a quality offensive line in an offense that wants to run the ball and play tough defense, but the lack of quality pass-catching options in this offense will likely limit Fields’ fantasy ceiling in 2025.
