Comparing the Seahawks' worst trade ever to Cowboys’ Micah Parsons blunder

The Seattle Seahawks might have avoided future disaster. The team wasn't part of a trade involving edge rusher Micah Parsons. He is a great player, but the Green Bay Packers had to give up quite a bit to acquire him from the Dallas Cowboys. Too much? We don't yet know.

Green Bay gave Dallas two first-round picks (2026 and 2027) as well as three-time Pro Bowler Kenny Clark. A good haul for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who will most likely find a way to mess the whole thing up.

But what the Packers gave Dallas in return for Parsons might force Seahawks fans to remember that same kind of scenario for a player who turned into a bust. In 2020, Seattle gave the New York Jets two first-round choices, a third-round selection, and safety Bradley McDougald in return for Jamal Adams and a fourth-round pick.

Micah Parsons trade might remind Seattle Seahawks fans of the Jamal Adams trade

The trade didn't really work out for either team. The Jets remained stuck in mediocrity (at best), and after a first season with Seattle, when Adams was great at pressuring the quarterback, setting an NFL sack record for a defensive back with 9.5, the safety was often injured and unproductive when he did play.

Adams played in 12 games in 2020 and piled up the sacks while not being great in coverage. He was better at dropping sure interceptions than catching them. Literally. He played in 12 more in 2021, but didn't have a sack, gave up four touchdowns in coverage, and a whopping 227 yards after the catch when his man was targeted by a pass.

After 2021, Jamal Adams would appear in just 10 more games for the Seahawks. He was available for only one in 2022.

The Green Bay Packers are almost certainly going to get a better return for Micah Parsons than the Seattle Seahawks did for Jamal Adams, but the Dallas Cowboys might be in the same state the New York Jets were in on the opposite side.

To be fair, the Jets' picks weren't bad, but 2021 first-round choice Alijah Vera-Tucker missed chunks of 2022 and 2023 (12 games combined between the two seasons), while 2022 first-round choice Garrett Wilson has been a steady and productive wide receiver while going through a turnstile of quarterbacks.

The Seahawks moved on from Jamal Adams after the 2023 season. He has found his way back to former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll, who had a huge hand in bringing Adams to Seattle, as both the coach and player are now with the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams is now an inside linebacker, though.
