Eddie Howe names very different Starting XI for Newcastle United as two key men dropped

ยท 30 August 2025, 16:26

Eddie Howe has been forced into several changes for his starting lineup as Newcastle United take on Leeds United at Elland Road in the 5:30pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.

We were expecting a few changes to the starting eleven today after Newcastle picked up a few injuries and a suspension on Monday against Liverpool, but Fabian Schar and Sandro Tonali have both made it into the starting lineup today.

Joelinton is missing as of course is Anthony Gordon, so there were forced changes in those positions.

However, Eddie Howe has mixed things up way more than we were expecting.

Swing and a miss

Eddie Howe has mixed things up

------------------------------

Sven Botman joins what looks to be a back three, including Fabian Schar and Dan Burn, while Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier play out wide.

The middle sees Jacob Ramsey making his full debut for Newcastle alongside Sandro Tonali and captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Up top, Will Osula replaces Anthony Gordon as expected but there's no Harvey Barnes or Anthony Elanga, instead, Jacob Murphy will support Osula up top.

It looks to be a total change of formation. Our feeling si that that Ramsey and Murphy are still on the wings with Bruno and Toanli as a double pivot in midfield in front of the stacked defense.

Sean Longstaff will face his old club

-------------------------------------

Sean Longstaff starts for Leeds United against his old club, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has to make do with a spot on the bench to start, but we're sure we'll see him at some point.

It's all geared up to be an interesting game. Let's see if these changes pay off for Howe. HOWAY THE LADS1
