Chelsea cancel Nicolas Jackson Bayern Munich transfer after striker leaves UK

Chelsea have cancelled the deal that would have seen Nicolas Jackson join Bayern Munich on loan despite the striker flying over to Germany for a medical. The Senegal centre-forward was due to join the German champions on a season-long loan that the Bavarians had the option to make permanent in 12 months' time. But following an injury summer signing Liam Delap sustained in the win over Fulham today, the deal has been torpedoed.

The Athletic say Chelsea have informed Bayern they will not be proceeding with the move and Jackson, 24, has been requested to return to London. Enzo Maresca said in the aftermath of the 2-0 win over Fulham that Delap could be out of action for up to eight weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Jackson was filmed landing at Munich Airport shortly after 4pm on Saturday afternoon but while he was set to complete a medical and sign the paperwork to secure a move to the Bundesliga club, the deal is now off.

His move to Bayern had been due to net the Premier League giants an initial £13m. If Vincent Kompany's side then wanted to sign Jackson permanently, they had a £56m option to do so.

The striker joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for £32m and scored 24 goals in 65 Premier League appearances. He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033 after signing an extension last September.

Maresca told TNT Sports post-match: "Delap is expected to be out for six to eight weeks because of this type of injury." And he added in his post-match press conference: "Liam injury doesn't look good. He was full speed and it's a hamstring.

"It requires weeks, then in terms of another striker, I've just finished the game. Now, after, we'll see, and take a decision. Two strikers is enough, but when one is out it’s not. We tried to use a different solution with [Tyrique] George."

Despite the injury blow for Delap, Joao Pedro scored his fifth Chelsea goal in six appearances. Off the back of a one-goal, two-assist display in the thrashing of West Ham, the Brazilian put the Londoners 1-0 up against Fulham before Enzo Fernandez's second-half penalty secured the three points.
