Player ratings: Chelsea struggle for open play goals but see off Fulham 2-0 with two key moments

Not quite a five star performance compared to last Friday night, but we got the job done and collected a vital three points going into the international break.

Seven points out of a possible nine has made the start of the season good. Still early days though and a lot more tests to come.

Sanchez: 6.5

Distribution was a bit questionable but made a couple of decent saves. Overall another decent day for our number 1.

Gusto: 5.5

Looks a bit sluggish and lethargic going forward, but defensively did well. Gustos ball carrying was killing down a lot of our attacks and helped fulham get back into shape quickly.

Chalobah: 6.5

Very lapsed in concentration today and wasn’t at the standard of what we used to seeing. Very fortunate that Fulham weren’t clinical in the final third. A much better and strong 2nd half performance though.

Tosin- 6.5

A bit better than Chalobah but his ground duels and aggression wasn’t what we were used to seeing. Against his former club too, he handled aerial threats against Muniz quite well. 2nd half didnt give Fulham a sniff

Cucurella- 6

Nullified Fulham’s right hand side threat quite well and tried to build up attacks by supporting Neto and tried to overlap as much as possible.

Enzo- 2.5

Literally a replica of his performance against Crystal Palace . Didn’t help out defensively and didn’t help with the attack.

It’s weird that we saw a fantastic energetic performance against West Ham but today it didn’t seem like he wanted to play.

A penalty doesn’t warrant a high rating.

Caicedo -8.5 (MOTM)

That goal saving tackle sums up what Caicedos all about. Covered so much ground as usual and won a lot of ground duels quite well. At times felt overran but that was more down to Enzo not helping out much. Still, a great performance.

Pedro- 8

He really is flourishing in this number 10 role for us! A powerful towering header which eased a lot of nerves for us chelsea fans. Oozed in class second half and should have had a couple of assists to his name.

Neto – 6

First half was taken out of the game by the doubling up of fulham. But his work rate and persistence to help the team out aided our defence at times. I can see why fans love Neto for his endless work rate for the team.

Estevao: 8

The only shining light in the first half for us. If anything was gonna happen, it was going to be through our Brazilian magician! A shame he couldn’t capitalise on the chance in the second half but still very positive signs.

Delap: N/A

Hopefully his injury isn’t too serious and will be back for Brentford away.

Subs:

George: 6

Struggled with physicality of the game in the first half but adapted well 2nd half and linked the play well.

James: N/A

Gittens: N/A

Santos: 5

Looked energetic coming on and put in a good shift to run over Fulham’s midfield.

Enzo Maresca: 7

The Half time team talk was a key factor to us winning the game and no one questioned the starting 11. However, improvements and different tactics do need to be made to combat the low block oppositions
