Negotiations between Barcelona and Chelsea for Fermín López have begun on Saturday as the Blues submitted an official €40 million written proposal to the Catalans for the midfielder, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio says the offer was sent immediately after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham, and talks are now officially underway. The €40 million offer falls well under Barça’s initial asking price of €70 million or their new price tag of €90 million, but Chelsea have certainly signaled their intent to begin negotiations.
Hansi Flick said in a press conference on Saturday that he “thinks Fermín will stay”, but also said a lot could still happen between now and Monday’s transfer deadline.
Chelsea have been waiting for the green light from Fermín’s camp in order to send an official offer to Barça, so it is possible that Fermín has decided to accept their proposal in the last few hours.
Stay tuned for more updates as we have them.
