Heading into the 2025 college football season, the North Carolina Tar Heels are set to have Bill Belichick leading the way. After the shocking move for the legendary coach to make the jump from the NFL to the college ranks, all eyes will be on him this season.
Nick Saban may not be coaching right now, but he is still on the set of "College GameDay." During the show's season opener, he spoke out about Belichick.
While there are a lot of questions about whether or not Belichick will find success in college football, Saban revealed an honest take about why he thinks the former New England Patriots' legend will succeed.
"Bill's strength as a coach, to me, is developing players," Saban said.

Belichick has been a developmental coach throughout his entire career. He had a lot of success developing young players and veterans alike with the Patriots.
His ability to do so will be key in college. With so many young players needing to be developed, Belichick's skill-set should give him a leg up on the competition.
Over the last few years, North Carolina has not been known as a football powerhouse. The program has been solid, but it will be relying on Belichick to take things to the next level.
During the 2022 season, the Tar Heels went 9-5 and then backed that up with an 8-5 record in 2023. Last season, however, North Carolina fell off a bit and finished the year with a 6-7 record. Belichick will be looking to get them back to winning at a high level.
Throughout his NFL career, Belichick compiled a 302-165 record. He also led New England to six Super Bowl wins.
Saban, on the other hand, will be a name to watch in the future. There are still some who believe he could make a return to coaching at some point down the road. Whether that ends up happening or not, fans are lucky to still have him on TV talking football.
He expects success from Belichick with the Tar Heels and it will be interesting to see if he's correct.
