Manchester United player ratings: 8/10 duo give Amorim hope but seven 5/10s in Burnley win -…

Bruno Fernandes was the hero as Manchester United scored late on to defeat Burnley 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. Ruben Amorim made eight changes to his starting line up from the midweek defeat to Grimsby, with Altay Bayindir back in goal and Diogo Dalot selected at left wing-back ahead of Patrick Dorgu.

United started well and twice went close through Bryan Mbeumo, before they had a penalty overturned after a VAR check adjudged that no foul had been committed on Mason Mount. They needed a slice of luck and finally got one when Casemiro's header cannoned off the crossbar and went in via Josh Cullen to give them a deserved lead.

Matheus Cunha limped off due to injury after half an hour, but United quickly put it behind them and almost doubled their advantage in spectacular circumstances when Amad fired over from the edge of the box.

United were made to pay for their wasted opportunities after the restart when Lyle Foster drew Burnley level, but there was an instant response when Mbeumo immediately regained their lead. Burnley had another goal disallowed for offside before they finally equalised when Jaidon Anthony converted from close range after another error from Bayindir.

There was more late drama when United were awarded a penalty in stoppage time and Fernandes fired low into the bottom corner to save their blushes. Here is how we rated the United players as they gained their first win of the season.

Not much he could do about the first goal, but a lot he could have done to prevent the second. Another clumsy performance.
