Match Report | Blackpool 1 Wanderers 1

A late disallowed goal denies Wanderers victory after the Whites came back from behind to claim a point at Bloomfield Road with Mason Busrtow grabbing his third goal of the season.

Wanderers almost took the lead on the ten minute mark. Amario Cozier-Duberry conjured up a chance of his own making as he cut onto his left foot from the right and looked to curl one towards the far corner but Bailey Peacock-Farrell was equal to it and parried it away.

But just three minutes later Blackpool took the lead through Dale Taylor. The home side hadn’t threatened up until that point but the Tangerines took their first opportunity. The summer signing took the ball past George Johnston and charged at the Whites defence before striking an effort in off the near post.

Blackpool’s Albie Morgan came close from a direct free-kick on 18 minutes. His strike went round the wall but also past the post.

Eight minutes later Cozier-Duberry was proving to be Wanderers’ danger man. After the Whites had a spell of possession around the Blackpool area he once again cut in on his left to curl one but again it went wide.

Mason Burstow went close from just outside the six-yard-box. On 28 minutes the Hull City loanee got on the end of Ibrahim Cissoko’s deflected cross but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

Quarter of an hour later Wanderers were awarded a free-kick around 25-yards-out. The set-piece was taken by Cozier-Duberry which hit the wall. A succession of crosses into the box followed but the attack ended with a mix up from the Blackpool defenders and goalkeeper with the ball falling to Burtsow but he couldn’t get his acrobatic effort on target.

The Whites came out for the second half making one change with Thierry Gale replacing Cissoko. The winger was lively from the off and got a shot away on 51 minutes after cutting in from the left. The effort was blocked before being picked up by Cozier-Duberry who laid it off to Josh Sheehan but his strike from range was comfortable for Peacock-Farrell.

A minute later Danny Imray set off down the right for Blackpool and took aim from outside the area but the effort went wide of Teddy Sharman-Lowe’s goal.

Gale was on the scene once more, cutting in from the left yet again and running down the edge of the area before letting fly but Peackock-Farrell was well behind the effort and hung on.

On 55 minutes George Johnston got on the end of a Josh Dacres-Cogley cross but he didn’t get the desired connection he would have wanted as the defender glanced the header wide.

But all of Wanderers’ pressure eventually paid off. Gale again was causing issues for the Blackpool defence after coming on at the start of the second half. His shot was blocked but Burstow reacted quickest and blasted the ball in the Blackpool net to level the scores one minute after the hour mark.

And the Whites thought they had a winner on 82 minutes. A brilliantly worked set-piece routine was finished off by substitute Xavier Simons whose effort from the edge of the area went all the way in. But an offside was called with Peacock-Farrell’s line of sight blocked.

Sam Dalby had a great chance in stoppage time following Cozier-Duberry’s cross but it just went over the bar as the game finished level.
