Manchester United registered their maiden victory of the 2025-26 season by beating Burnley 3-2.
Manager Ruben Amorim made only one change to his side that drew 1-1 with Fulham last weekend, with Diogo Dalot replacing Patrick Dorgu at the left wing-back spot.
The hosts came flying out of the blocks once again, just as they had against Arsenal and Fulham.
Their relentless pressure forced Burnley to concede an own goal.
Amorim suffered a massive setback with Matheus Cunha suffering a hamstring injury in the first half.
The Red Devils carved out two glorious chances to kill the contest, yet wastefulness in front of goal kept the Clarets alive.
Burnley came out with a plan in the second half and equalised through Lyle Foster.
United regained the lead inside 50 seconds through Bryan Mbeumo, but familiar goalkeeping lapses came back to haunt them, as Jaidon Anthony pounced to drag Burnley level once more.
Amad Diallo won a clear penalty in the injury time and Bruno Fernandes buried it with some style to win it late for the Red Devils.
Player Ratings
Altay Bayindir – 3/10
Started his third straight Premier League game but once again looked unconvincing. Barely tested in the first half, yet conceded twice from Burnley’s only two real efforts after the break. His costly fumble directly gifted them a second equaliser.
Leny Yoro – 6/10
The 19-year-old played a crucial role in the build-up to United’s second goal.
Matthijs de Ligt – 5/10
De Ligt has to be more vocal when organising the defence. He went missing for Foster’s equaliser and failed to marshal the defence effectively.
Luke Shaw – 5/10
Shaw hardly offered anything going forward, which will be a real concern for Amorim, considering Lisandro Martinez is still out.
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Dalot should have done better for Burnley’s first goal but found Mbeumo with a fine cut-back to earn an assist.
Amad Diallo – 7/10
The Ivorian looked much more like last season as he took on defenders and was also alert to track back. However, he missed one of the easiest opportunities to put United 2-0 up right before the break.
He made amends by winning a penalty in the injury time.
Casemiro – 5/10
Another sluggish display from the Brazilian. His header indirectly led to United’s opener via an own goal, but overall, he struggled to dictate the tempo.
Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
Fernandes played a fantastic switch of play to create an early chance for Mbeumo and came close to making it 3-1 from a corner set-piece.
He held his nerve from the spot after the horror moment against Fulham.
Mason Mount – 7/10
Mount threaded a clever ball over the top to release Mbeumo and nearly won a penalty.
He came agonisingly close to capping his performance with a superb headed goal, only to see the effort cannon back off the crossbar.
He was taken off at half-time, possibly due to an injury.
Bryan Mbeumo – 9/10
A constant menace with his movement. Had two quick chances before finally getting his goal, finishing smartly to put United back in front. The only attacker who looked consistently dangerous.
Matheus Cunha – 7/10
He looked lively before his unfortunate hamstring injury.
Substitutes
Joshua Zirkzee – 4/10
Similar to Diallo, he missed a fine chance to score his maiden goal. His first touches were too heavy and failed to contribute to the attack.
Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10
Mainoo looked like a player distracted by uncertainty over his future. He left too much to do for Casemiro at the centre and fired two shots over the bar.
Earned another point in our ratings after good defensive work late in the game.
Benjamin Sesko – 6/10
He rose highest to Mbeumo’s cross but missed the target by just a few inches.
Noussair Mazraoui – NA
Too late to rate.
