Is Nicolas Jackson refusing to go back to Chelsea? Plus, what you needed to know about Bayern…

Update — Saturday August 30th, 12:10PM EDT: Report says no docs sign between clubs, Jackson being forced back to London

According to Gianluca DiMarzio (via @iMiaSanMia), Chelsea will force Nicolas Jackson to return to London:

Chelsea have asked Nicolas Jackson to return to London. The player wants to join Bayern but The Blues now have no intention to sign the documents of the transfer.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg also reported that Chelsea wants Jackson back…now (via @iMiaSanMia):

Chelsea will insist Nicolas Jackson returns despite his disappointment at their request.

Sky Sports (via @iMiaSanMia) added more context to the situation:

Chelsea are pulling out of the Nicolas Jackson loan deal to Bayern Munich.

Bayern have been informed that Chelsea will not be able to proceed with the proposed deal due to an injury to Liam Delap against Fulham.

The decision to cancel Jackson’s loan was taken after discussions this afternoon between Chelsea’s football leadership team and head coach Enzo Maresca.

The player is now expected to return to London. He will go straight back into the first-team squad.

According to a report from Taggat (via @iMiaSanMia), Chelsea FC’s Nicolas Jackson is refusing to go back to the club and wants to move forward with the loan deal to Bayern Munich:

❕ Chelsea attempted to reverse their decision after Delap’s injury and keep Nicolas Jackson, but the player’s camp refused! The striker is in Munich to undergo his medical before signing for Bayern

While that situation sorts itself out, things made sense on some levels when Bayern Munich was reportedly going to get the Chelsea attacker. As of now, though, the deal appears to be dead (we’ll continue to monitor the situation) and while there still could be some movement, it is important to understand what Bayern Munich was attempting to do before Liam Delap’s injury derailed things.

Here are some reports from a variety of sources on what was happening before the injury to Delap:

@TheAthleticFC confirms that personal terms between Bayern and Nicolas Jackson are already in place on a permanent contract from next summer if the club decided to trigger the option to buy.

Nicolas Jackson has already agreed to a pre-contract with Bayern in case the option to buy is taken next summer. Option to buy is worth €65m fixed. There’s also a sell-on clause for Chelsea if the deal becomes permanent.

🚨🔴⚪️ Nicolas Jackson will land in Munich later today after €15m loan move agreed with Bayern.

Initial tests tonight then main part of medical on Sunday morning.

Jackson already agreed his contract if buy option clause gets triggered in 2026.

Nicolas Jackson had huge interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League and Europe, but his mind was made up when Bayern made their interest known. Vincent Kompany is thought to have been a huge factor in Jackson choosing Bayern/

Jackson will travel to Munich this afternoon to have a medical and finalise his move. If the option to buy (€65m) is triggered after the initial loan, he will sign a five-year deal with Bayern.

Nicolas Jackson is planned as an ‘all-rounder’ for the forward line, not just a Harry Kane back-up.

⚠️ Exclusive news, set to be official soon!

As you can see, things were very advanced, but that injury to Delap just created a depth issue for Chelsea. Did Bayern Munich lose out on a good deal or dodge a bullet?

Bayern Munich is off to a solid start, but the transfer market has been hard on the Bavarians (despite some quality acquisitions and sales).
