Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has reignited debate over the Premier League title race after insisting Arsenal are the team to beat this season, just days before the Gunners visit Anfield for a high-stakes clash on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Egyptian, fresh off winning the PFA Player of the Year award for a record third time earlier this month, first identified Arsenal as his top contenders during the ceremony, praising the continuity within Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the weekend’s game, Salah doubled down on that view, stressing that Arsenal’s stability gives them an edge over defending champions Liverpool.

“This year, Arsenal are number one,” Salah declared. “They have a team that have played together for five, six years, so they understand each other. It’s easier for them to win the title.”

Arsenal finished second to Liverpool by 10 points last season but have strengthened with the arrivals of Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze. Early victories over Manchester United and Leeds have further boosted optimism, though Salah’s remarks appear designed to heap pressure on Arteta’s side, who have been runners-up three years running.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain formidable under new manager Arne Slot, adding Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike to their squad this summer. They opened the campaign with a thrilling 4-2 win over Bournemouth, with Salah once again central to their attack after scoring 29 goals and supplying 18 assists last season.
Bookmakers still regard Liverpool as narrow favourites for the title, with Arsenal and Manchester City close behind. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has also tipped the Gunners to finally end their 22-year drought, pointing to their “outstanding” defensive unit and improved attacking depth.
Sunday’s encounter at Anfield, scheduled for August 31, is already being billed as an early title race marker. For Mohamed Salah, whose comments have added an element of psychological warfare, the match provides another opportunity to underline Liverpool’s credentials while testing Arsenal’s resolve.
