Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has ended speculation over Gabriel Martinelli’s future, insisting the Brazilian winger will remain at the Emirates beyond Monday’s transfer deadline.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool, Arteta was clear in his stance after reports in Spain linked the 24-year-old with a potential move abroad.

“Gabi is going nowhere,” Arteta said. “He’s a vital part of our project, and we’re building around him.”

Martinelli has been central to Arsenal’s progress under Arteta since his breakthrough in the 2019/20 season. Despite a mixed 2024/25 campaign, contributing eight goals and six assists in 35 league appearances, rumours had emerged of interest from Atlético Madrid and other Spanish clubs, with some outlets even suggesting loan options.

Arteta’s emphatic dismissal of the speculation reaffirms Arsenal’s commitment to the forward, who signed a long-term deal in February 2023 that runs until 2027, with an option for a further year. The manager highlighted Martinelli’s “unique energy” and “massive potential” as qualities the team cannot afford to lose, even with the arrivals of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, and the rapid rise of academy prodigy Max Dowman.

The decision fits within Arsenal’s broader strategy of maintaining continuity while adding quality to challenge for honours this season. The Gunners have begun the 2025/26 campaign with back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Leeds, strengthened by the loan signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. Contract extensions for Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are also said to be close, according to Hand of Arsenal.

With sporting director Andrea Berta driving recruitment and Arteta reinforcing the importance of his established core, Arsenal appear intent on mounting a serious Premier League title challenge.

Martinelli’s confirmed stay will be viewed as a major boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield, a fixture many see as an early test of Arsenal’s credentials. With Mohamed Salah recently naming Arsenal as favourites for the title, Arteta’s firm backing of Martinelli sends a clear message: the Gunners are keeping their key players as they push for silverware on all fronts.
