Liverpool have made a €40 million bid to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, according to David Ornstein.
The Reds are still trying to add two marquee signings before the Monday deadline, with their top priority the arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
In addition to the Swedish striker, Liverpool are trying to bolster their defence and have identified Crystal Palace star Guehi as a market opportunity due to his expiring contract.
Talks between the two clubs have been taking place for weeks, but a gap in valuation has meant that progress has been hard to come by. Palace don't want to lose a key player for less than his value - and coach Oliver Glasner doesn't want to lose him at all - while Liverpool don't want to overpay for someone who is free to move in 2026.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool have now made a formal bid to Palace to unlock the situation and secure a deal before 1 September.
Liverpool make Guehi bid
Ornstein reports that the Anfield club's offer has clocked in at around €40 million, with no bonuses or clauses attached. Palace have yet to respond to the bid.
Liverpool's proposal comes after Palace managed to agree a deal for Toulouse youngster Jaydee Canvot on Friday, with the 19-year-old billed as a long-term replacement for Guehi.

It is expected that Liverpool and Palace will find common ground for the England defender, as chairman Steve Parish has already confirmed that he will have to be sold due to his refusal to sign a new contract.
The aforementioned Glasner, meanwhile, sent a clear message to Parish on Friday by bluntly stating that there is no way that Guehi can be sold as it is impossible for Palace to secure a ready-made, Premier League-proven replacement this late in the window.
