The Dutch winger has put pen to paper on a new contract with the Reds.
Cody Gakpo’s long-term future is set after Liverpool Football Club officially confirmed today that the forward has signed a new long-term contract, ensuring an extension to his two-and-a-half-year association with the Reds.
The forward has been a man reborn under Arne Slot, thriving under the manager’s tutelage.
Brought to Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, the German struggled to find a consistent place for him in his teams, deploying him across the front-line and even as an attacking midfielder.
Due to the lack of consistency and belief shown in him from Klopp, Cody Gakpo struggled during his first two seasons on Merseyside, but he has really found his feet under Arne Slot.
Gakpo has made 131 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 42 times and providing 16 assists.
He completed his transfer from PSV Eindhoven in January of 2023 and is now a mainstay in Arne Slot’s side.
He has started all three of this season’s opening fixtures, contributing with a goal in Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Anfield against Bournemouth, and a brace of assists in Monday’s win over Newcastle United.
Upon signing his new contract, Gakpo said:
“It feels amazing to extend the contract here at this beautiful club. I’m very grateful and hopefully I can give back many more beautiful moments.
“I feel at home, my family feels at home and that’s also a big decision always. They feel good. I’m very happy at the club, a good group, good teammates, so the life around the football itself is very good and I enjoy every moment of it. I’m very grateful that I can extend.”
With Liverpool, Cody Gakpo has won the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, and with his footballing future now set, he will be looking to win more silverware at Liverpool.
