Chelsea 'attempt' shock U-turn after Maresca reveals Delap injury concern

Chelsea have reportedly reacted to an injury suffered by Liam Delap by attempting to block Nicolas Jackson's loan move to Bayern Munich.

On Saturday afternoon, the Blues recorded a controversial 2-0 victory over Fulham to move to the top of the Premier League table.

However, developments in the West London derby at Stamford Bridge have led to the possibility of unforeseen drama involving Jackson.

Delap sustained what has been confirmed to be a hamstring injury by Enzo Maresca, the Italian suggesting after the game that the Englishman could be sidelined for between six and eight weeks.

Later in a press conference, Maresca suggested that he was not content to have Joao Pedro as his solitary frontline striker until the October international break.

Chelsea want Jackson back at Stamford Bridge

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have informed Bayern Munich that they want to scrap Jackson's £13m loan switch to the Allianz Arena.

The Senegal international is already in Munich for a medical ahead of completing a transfer that would also see Bayern possess an option to buy in 2026.

Chelsea are said to have requested for Jackson to return to England, but a number of different outlets, including X account iMiaSanMia, have claimed that Jackson's camp initially refused.

There is said to be a desire from Jackson's side to remain with the Bundesliga champions, Dom Smith of The Standard adding that Jackson and his camp were on a private plane when the request was made.

Nevertheless, it has been suggested that the 24-year-old will not be allowed to stay in Germany and will be reintegrated back into the Chelsea senior squad.

Could Chelsea have acted differently?

From a human-being standpoint, Jackson has every reason to feel angered by the latest development with Chelsea having purposely left him out of their plans all summer.

Jackson, who has a contract until 2033, has essentially been used as a pawn in a number of transfer developments, the emphasis being on cashing in on him to accommodate other players.

Chelsea have instead taken a ruthless approach with denying Jackson what would have been a chance to kick-start his career in a different league.

Furthermore, Chelsea are also risking harming their working relationship with Bayern, albeit there being an argument that their German counterparts could have moved faster for Jackson's signature and met Chelsea's previous demands.

How the situation plays out remains to be seen. Chelsea have two weeks to reconcile with Jackson, unless he decides to try to force an exit from the club against their wishes.
