Grealish resurgence: Toffees hold on against Wolves as star continues fine form

Everton emerged as 3-2 victors against hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday afternoon in their third match of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The visitors opened the scoring in within the first 10 minutes when Vitaliy Mykolenko found Jack Grealish in the box before the forward headed across goal to Beto, who connected with the ball using his head to tap home.

Wolves equalised shortly after the 20th-minute mark through Hee-Chan Hwang after Marshall Munetsi played a first-time cross to the attacker, but Iliman Ndiaye put the away side back in front after he took advantage at the back post less than 15 minutes before the interval.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the Toffees two goals ahead before the hour mark, but poor concentration at the back post allowed Rodrigo Gomes to reduce his team's deficit late on.

David Moyes's side would claim all three points, and the result leaves them in fifth place with six points, while Wolves are in 19th place with no points.

SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT

Jack Grealish of Everton before his side's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, on August 30, 2025

It can come as no surprise to Wolves that they have struggled in the opening stages of the season given they have lost a number of key stars, with the impact of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri's exits significant.

Head coach Vitor Pereira cannot afford to lose striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, but if the forward leaves before the closure of the summer transfer window on Monday, then it is difficult to see the situation improving.

Everton have proved to be the perfect platform for Jack Grealish, with the Englishman providing four assists in his first two games for the club.

It remains to be seen if he can continue his fine form, but if Moyes can get the best out of him, then the Toffees could avoid a relegation scrap this season.
