Ruben Amorim says he is ‘concerned’ after both Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount came off injured during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Burnley.

Bruno Fernandes scored a 96th minute penalty in a thrilling game at Old Trafford on Saturday to give United their first win of the season.

The result somewhat eases the pressure on Amorim whose side were humiliatingly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town during the week.

But in a major blow for the Red Devils, it seems they have lost not one but two key players to injury, with Cunha hobbling off during in the 31st minute after appearing to hurt his hamstring.

After a great performance in the first-half, Mount was surprisingly subbed off during the break and replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, leading to speculation that he had picked up an injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, a crestfallen Amorim confirmed that was the case and revealed that the England midfielder was playing while injured.

‘It was hard to lose a player like Cunha and Mason Mount – Mason Mount played like 30 minutes with an injury,’ the Portuguese said.

‘When asked if they were long-term problems, he replied: ‘I don’t know, I don’t know, but I’m concerned about that. They are so important for us, so we’ll see.’

Later, in his post-match press conference, he added: ‘I don’t know [how bad they are], we will check them.

‘We need these guys to be really competitive.’

The good news for United is that international break is here, meaning they have over two weeks before their next game and more time for Cunha and Mount to recover.

The bad news is their next game is the derby against Manchester City on September 14, followed by a home clash against Chelsea six days later.

The injuries may well alter United’s plans in the transfer market with deadline day on Monday,’ with Amorim saying: ‘I am always speaking with them [the board] to try and improve the team.’

On the game against Burnley, he added: ‘I was frustrated like any Man Utd fan, we had chances to score more goals, create more chances. Today, the football was fair – we were the better team.

‘Some moments are really decisive. Sometimes we were not playing so well, but you can see the effort of everyone on the pitch wanting to win.’
