Alejandro Garnacho has completed his move from Manchester United to Chelsea.

The winger was at Stamford Bridge to watch his new club beat Fulham in Saturday's early Premier League game and has wrapped up his £40million switch.

Garnacho's move to Chelsea has been expected for most of the summer and the Blues have been long-term admirers of the 21-year-old.

He joins on a seven-year-contract and the deal includes a 10 per cent sell on for United.

After securing the switch Garnacho said: "It;s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club.

"I can't wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special - we're the best team in the world! It's amazing to be here and I'm very happy."

The Argentina international moved to Old Trafford in 2020 as a 16-year-old and he helped the Reds win the FA Youth Cup in 2022.

He broke through into the first-team the following season and seemed set for a bright future with the Reds.

But he fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim and has been training away from the first-team this summer as part of the United 'bomb squad'.

His departure will count as pure profit for United under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as Garnacho counts as a homegrown player.

Garnacho cast doubt on his future after he was benched for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May and Amorim told him three days later he could leave United.

Amorim dropped Garnacho from the squad for the Manchester derby at City in December over his attitude in the 2-1 win at Viktoria Plzen three days earlier. Garnacho was then selected in the next 34 matchday squads before he was omitted from the 20-man selection on the final day of the season against Aston Villa.

Garnacho started 25 times under Amorim - including in the six knockout ties before the Europa League final - but he was then ousted from the starting XI after Mason Mount scored twice in the semi-final second leg win against Athletic Bilbao.

Speaking about Garnacho earlier this year, Amorim said: "I think Garnacho, you can understand and you can see, he's talented, he's a really talented boy. And sometimes things don't work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is.

"But I have the feeling, I think it's clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. And I can understand that. So I think it's not a problem.

"Sometimes you adapt to one guy, you have the connection. Other times, you want a new challenge. So, we try to make everything okay to all the parts. To the club, to the coach and to the players. So, it's a natural thing in football."
