Tottenham started to come alive in the transfer market after their 2-0 win over Manchester City.
Spurs quickly signed Xavi Simons – who was linked to Manchester City earlier this summer – in a £52m move from RB Leipzig.
Before this announcement on Friday, Tottenham were keeping a close eye on the Etihad Stadium, showing interest in Savinho and Nathan Ake as well as Manuel Akanji.
It remains to be seen if Savinho or Ake depart for north London, but Gazzetta dello Sport now claim that the latter is most likely to move to Tottenham, which should provide some cheer for Spurs fans after a 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Tottenham now front of the queue to sign Manuel Akanji
The Italian news outlet discussed the Switzerland international as AC Milan attempt to sign him.
Gazzetta dello Sport state that AC Milan have no issues paying the £15m asking price for Akanji – who Danny Murphy called “incredible” – although the problem lies in convincing the Manchester City No.25 himself.

It is said that Tottenham lead the race for the 30-year-old at this moment in time, with AC Milan second and Crystal Palace third in line. Gazzetta dello Sport add that Galatasaray have dropped out of the running entirely.
Crystal Palace have also approached Mohammed Salisu of Monaco – so it would appear the Eagles are looking for alternatives to Akanji, which supports the notion that Tottenham may well be closing in.
Insiders at Tottenham still clinging to Savinho deal
Despite the fact Manchester City told Tottenham Savinho is staying – according to Fabrizio Romano – people within Spurs are not giving up just yet.
Dean Jones believes Tottenham still think they could sign Savinho due to the fact the Brazilian is keen to make the move.
Officials at Spurs also feel Manchester City are still actively scouring the market for a replacement too, which offers them more hope.
Manchester City like Rodrygo of Real Madrid – and the Brazil international is the most likely to join as a replacement if Tottenham can land Savinho.
