**Liverpool have finally made a move to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.**
The England international’s stay at Selhurst Park is all but over after he entered the final 12 months of his current contract this season with no hopes of a renewal.
Palace are continuing to source potential replacements for Guehi in the belief that he will leave before the summer transfer window deadline passes on Monday.
Arne Slot’s side are now seeking to test the FA Cup holders’ resolve with a late approach to make Guehi their tenth arrival of an unprecedented summer at Anfield.
A proposal understood to be worth £35 million has been tabled by the Reds in efforts to secure a fresh central defensive reinforcement option before the cut-off.
The Premier League champions currently only have three available options at the heart of defence in Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and new arrival Giovanni Leoni.
Joe Gomez is currently sidelined by injury while Liverpool regularly deployed midfielder Wataru Endo as an auxiliary centre-back during the previous campaign.
Slot also experimented with new vice-captain Andy Robertson and academy midfielder Trey Nyoni in the position during this month’s friendly with Athletic Bilbao.
Palace are yet to respond to Liverpool’s offer, which is believed to reflect the limited time left on Guehi’s stay with the club and the lack of progress on an extension.
