Alejandro Garnacho says he has joined the “best team in the world” after completing his move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The winger, who has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues, departed Manchester United in a deal worth £40 million, which includes a sell-on fee.
The transfer is United’s biggest ever sale of an academy graduate and takes Chelsea’s summer spend to almost £300 million.
Garnacho sought to leave Old Trafford after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim late season when he was reportedly told to find a new club.
Alejandro Garnacho completes ‘incredible’ Chelsea transfer
The 21-year-old said he’s “very happy” to sign for the world champions, who were initially linked with a move for the player in January, after such a tumultuous period of his young career.
“It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started,” Garnacho told the official Chelsea website.
“I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.”
Garnacho joined the United academy from Atletico Madrid for a £420,000 transfer fee in 2020, when he was 16 years of age.
