One Manchester United star reminded Ruben Amorim about his “immense” quality despite having just 12 touches against Burnley.

Manchester United claimed their first win of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford.

The hosts took the lead in the first half when Burnley midfielder Josh Cullen inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Burnley equalised early in the second half, but United hit back immediately through Bryan Mbeumo, who scored his first goal at Old Trafford to restore the advantage.

The visitors levelled again, and frustration loomed for Ruben Amorim’s side, until Amad won a stoppage-time penalty. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and calmly slotted it home to secure a vital three points for United.

The first-half performance from United was so promising but the levels dropped once again in a second-half which lacked quality.

In the end, United got over the line and they were putting pressure on the visitors before the penalty was eventually awarded in added time.

One of the players who injected some quality and energy into the game was Noussair Mazraoui, who came on for Leny Yoro after 85 minutes to make his first appearance of the season.

Mazraoui looked “immense” during his short cameo. In 12 touches, he completed seven of his eight attempted passes. He also won a tackle and his only duel.

The Moroccan was one of United’s best players last season and reminded Amorim and United fans of his quality once again after spending time out injured.

Mazraoui can push for spot in United defence

At the moment, it seems clear that Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw is the best back three at Old Trafford but Mazraoui could change that.

Yoro looked really sharp on the left side last term and it would not be a surprise if he returned to that area if Mazraoui can find form and push his way into the team.

The 27-year-old’s confidence in link-up should fit perfectly with Amad and Mbeumo on the right flank and it might be something to watch out for after the international break.

It also means that Shaw is not playing too much football, with Amorim likely wary of him starting every game with his injury history.
