‘Official bid’–David Ornstein drops major transfer news on Liverpool’s other top target

Liverpool have been the biggest winners of the summer transfer window already, and that’s even before they’ve made their move for Newcastle superstar Alexander Isak.

There is now every indication that the Reds will be able to bring Isak on board this summer, as a recent 130 million pound transfer bid seems to be exactly the record-breaking offer that Newcastle were holding out for.

Liverpool already won the Premier League title last season, and now with Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, and potentially Isak on the way, the Reds attack is beyond enviable with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo already in place as two of the best forwards from the 2024/25 season.

The Reds did sign two new fullbacks in Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez this past summer, but once the Isak deal is done, they will still have room to upgrade the defense further.

Liverpool could get a bargain here

According to a report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool have already done just that, as they have submitted an “offical bid” for their dream target in central defense, Marc Guehi.

Per Ornstein, Liverpool have submitted a rather cheap offer, too, of just 35 million pounds flat with no add-ons. Considering Crystal Palace would lose Guehi for free in the winter without a deal in place this summer, though, that is actually a fair bid.

With clubs like Tottenham not as interested in Guehi and Chelsea seemingly occupied elsewhere, Liverpool could get this deal done with just a sweetener added to convince Palace to sell their other prized possession, having already sent Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Guehi has been one of the best center backs in the Premier League for years. With Liverpool worrying about Ibrahima Konate potentially leaving the club for Real Madrid as a free agent in his own right next season, following in the footsteps of iconic right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, signing Guehi in his prime becomes that much more important.

Crystal Palace will likely counteroffer Liverpool with something, but it shouldn’t take much for the two to find common ground. With a few add-ons or a sell-on clause or something small like that, Liverpool should be able to bag Guehi this summer before September striker for roughly that same 35 million pounds.

Adding Guehi and Isak to Wirtz, Ekitike, Kerkez, and Frimpong would seal Liverpool as the biggest winners of the Premier League transfer market just months after actually winning the league itself by a pretty sizeable margin.
