Everton’s efforts to sign West Ham star Thomas Soucek have so far been in vain.

David Moyes is keen to reunite with Soucek at Everton, after previously working with the Czech star in his time at the London Stadium.

Soucek would add vital depth to the Toffees’ engine room and potentially allow Harrison Armstrong to leave Everton on loan.

Moyes is keen to add to his squad before the 1 September deadline, and his former Hammers star would be perfect.

Everton will struggle to sign Soucek

Everton look set to be disappointed in their pursuit of Soucek, with a bid already being turned down by the East Londoners.

Darke believes that the Blues will struggle to sign Soucek at this point, given his importance to the Hammers.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “I would not have thought West Ham would be in any great hurry, particularly in their current state, to let Soucek out of the door.

“I think he has proved a bargain buy for West Ham, he has come up with a number of useful goals for them, he is particularly good in their air, he offers some physicality, but where does he fit into Everton’s team?

“You have got Gueye, who plays every week, Garner, they have got a lot of players to fit in, do they need someone else? I don’t know.

“I would be slightly surprised if West Ham let him go this late in the window.”

Everton may turn to alternative targets

If they do not get Soucek, the Blues need to move on to different targets, as they lack options in the centre of the pitch right now.

Tim Ireogbunam and Armstrong are inexperienced and cannot be trusted to start on a weekly basis if their senior options are injured.

Everton’s current midfield options:

Idrissa Gueye

James Garner

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Tim Ireogbunam

Harrison Armstrong

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has proved to be a great signing, while the likes of James Garner and Idrissa Gueye are also reliable.

They need one more option, with the likes of Hayden Hackney and Florentino Luis being touted as potential options.

Whoever it is, the Friedkin Group must address that area before the window slams shut.
