“That’s His Excuse?” Deion Sanders’ Comment Enrages Entire Fan Base (Watch)

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes got off to a horrendous start in 2025. One season removed from Travis Hunter being drafted second overall and Shedeur Sanders being one of the best quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, expectations were high. However, a 27-20 loss to Georgia Tech in front of Colorado’s home crowd didn’t exactly start things on a high note.

What Sanders said after the game didn’t help things either.

According to Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun:

On Friday night, Colorado fell short to Georgia Tech in its season opener. It was a heartbreaking result for Deion Sanders and his squad, especially since they fought incredibly hard in the second half.

Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King ended a 20-20 tie by rushing for a 45-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining. Colorado’s Kaidon Salter had the opportunity to orchestrate a game-tying drive, but a deep pass to Dre’lon Miller was just a touch too long. It would’ve been a 61-yard touchdown that would’ve sent the fans at Folsom Field into a frenzy.

College football fans were a bit surprised by how poorly Sanders managed the clock during the final minute of the game. There was a sequence where running back Micah Welch was brought down with 1:02 to play. By the time Salter took the next snap, there were just 45 seconds remaining.

Colorado lost 11 seconds a few plays later because Sanders refused to use one of its two remaining timeouts.

Countless people ripped Sanders for his questionable decisions.

“Colorado used some elite Les Miles clock management strategy on that final drive. Georgia Tech wins 27-20,” Brett McMurphy said.

“Deion Sanders has zero clue how to manage clock in a late game scenario. What an awful effort,” a fan wrote on X.

Coach Prime explains his side to the story.

Following Friday night’s loss to Georgia Tech, Sanders shared his thought process on the final drive of the game. He claims he didn’t use any timeouts because Salter got out of bounds a few times.

“I think we got out of bounds a couple of times,” Sanders said. “We didn’t have to take them. That’s what transpired. We got out of bounds I think on both sidelines. That’s what happened. After the first, I think we got a good play and we caught the ball, I think, for nine yards. We had one yard to go, so if you get the first down, the clock stops. It don’t make sense to really use your timeout in that sense.”

Even if that was the case, Sanders could’ve used his timeouts to settle Salter and the offense. It was pretty evident they were all out of sorts down the stretch.

Maybe we’ll see better clock management when Colorado faces Delaware on September 6. However, it’s unlikely that game will come down to the wire
