Alan Shearer offers immediate reaction to Leeds vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was not impressed with the team’s performance away at Leeds on Saturday.

Indeed, Newcastle drew 0-0 with Leeds to leave them winless heading into the first international break of the Premier League season.

For all the talk of the positives from Newcastle United’s performances against Aston Villa and Liverpool, not beating Leeds was a blow.

Clearly, it’s been a testing summer and Eddie Howe was without some key players for the game. Still, Newcastle were flat throughout and failing to beat a newly promoted side has to be considered a disappointment.

Alan Shearer says Newcastle are going last on Match of the Day

Given the game did not produce much in the way of fireworks, the Newcastle United legend can hardly be blamed.

In fact, he claimed that Leeds vs Newcastle United was so uneventful that it would be going last on Match of the Day when taking to social media platform X immediately after the game.

That feels about right. Newcastle have done well this season after a testing few months but the performance at Elland Road left a lot to be desired.

Newcastle United offered chance to bounce back

Now, the players will head away on international duty for their countries.

After that, however, Newcastle are offered something of a chance to respond. They next play Wolves, who are struggling towards the bottom of the Premier League this season, losing all three of their games while conceding six goals.

By then, Newcastle will have some clarity. Alexander Isak will either have left or will be trying to work his way back into the set-up at that point.

Nick Woltemade, however, almost certainly will feature. The club record signing was at Elland Road to watch his team in action, having officially arrived on Saturday.

Hopefully, things will start to change after the break.
