Sean Longstaff was Carragher's Motm against Newcastle, but Leeds United teammate was even better - opinion

Leeds United played well to take a point off Newcastle United on Saturday, with four points now on the board this season.

Leeds United’s start to the new Premier League season has been steady, despite that 5-0 thumping against Arsenal, which was followed up by a very poor defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

Daniel Farke’s side are currently sitting pretty in 10th place of the Premier League table. On Saturday, Leeds United drew 0-0 with Newcastle United at Elland Road in what was a solid performance from start to finish.

Newcastle never really looked like they were going to score, and former Magpies favourite Sean Longstaff was very impressive against his former team. The midfielder made his first Premier League start for Leeds and he was co-commentator Jamie Carragher’s Man of the Match.

Jayden Bogle shines during Leeds United 0-0 Newcastle

Whilst Longstaff was a very strong contender for the Man of the Match award, Leeds United teammate Jayden Bogle arguably deserved the award just as much as Longstaff. In the right-back position, Bogle shone once again for Leeds United, reminding everyone and just how important he is to this side and the way they play.

Bogle was up and down the right flank, really causing Newcastle some issues and setting up Dominic Calvert-Lewin for what was perhaps the best opportunity to win the game late on.

Last summer, Leeds signed Bogle from Sheffield United and the 25-year-old went on to score six goals and assist four more in 44 league appearances for the Whites.

Jayden Bogle’s stats vs Newcastle United show just how good he was

With Bogle, everyone talks about his attacking play. And it’s easy to do that when we see him bursting forward and creating opportunities whenever he gets the chance to.

But what’s really great about the Englishman is how solid he is defensively, and we saw that against on Saturday with Bogle putting in the defensive actions; joint 1st with seven in total, including three clearances.

Leeds United have signed James Justin from Leicester City and he’ll provide some great competition for Bogle, which should help to bring the very best out of both players over the course of this season.
