'I don't hate him' - Jamie Carragher hits back amid accusations that he picks on Liverpool star

Jamie Carragher has fired back at a Liverpool fan on social media after being accused of hating one of Arne Slot's title winners. Carragher, who spent the entirety of his professional career at Anfield, has never been shy in voicing his opinion on what goes on at his former club, whether it is positive or negative.

However, in recent times, one player in particular has seemingly been subject to frequent criticism from the 47-year-old, which led to one supporter making a point of it online. However, Carragher didn't back down and refuted the claims made against him as he explained where his frustrations with the player came from.

Carragher Defends Konate Criticism

The debate began on Friday night as one X user was critical of Carragher's observation of Ibrahima Konate on the Overlap. The fan tweeted: "The way Carragher’s talking about Konate being Virg’s partner on the overlap is embarrassing, basically belittling his game like he wasn’t integral for winning the PL last season. He’s started poorly, but he’s completely discrediting his ability."

This then led to a second fan follow up and agree with the statement, replying: "Konate was our best CB in some parts of last season. Carra has his list of players he hates. When they are in good form, he’s quiet. When bad he amplifies. The opposite with his favorites. Palmer after some good games is the best, when average for 6 months, Carra went quiet."

The follow-up comment is what prompted a response from Carragher himself, who denied that he hated the French international.

"He wasn’t! I don’t hate him, he’s a very good PL CB playing alongside the best CB the league has ever seen. That makes him & the others who have played alongside VVD look 20% better. When I judge top CB’s I think, could they lead & organise a back four? I do have doubts if VVD.

"Was out for a period of time that Konate could lead a back four in big games, I’m well aware of his strengths aerially & pace wise. I also don’t believe that if Guehi signs he automatically takes Konate’s place."

Carragher's self-defence comes after he slammed Konate for his performance in the opening game of the Premier League season, calling him 'shocking' and claiming that he had a 'really bad' night against the Cherries. He was also deemed to be lucky not to have been sent off in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle nine days later.

Despite that, Konate has retained his place in Arne Slot's side since the start of the season and it would appear the Dutchman has no plans on replacing him anytime soon.
