The game remained close right up to the final buzzer, with every small detail playing a role in determining the winner in this crucial Group A battle.
After the tough loss, Latvia's forward Davis Bertans, who led his team in scoring in the 80-84 defeat, expressed frustration with the referees’ decisions, calling a key call at the end of the game unacceptable.
“I know that everyone can make mistakes, but I think the refereeing mistake at the end was unacceptable," Bertans said in the post game press conference.
"They didn’t see the elbow to the face when we were down by four points. I understand when it happens in the middle of the game—lots of things happen, it can happen. But at the end, when it could actually give us a chance to tie… We didn’t even get a foul," he noted.
"That’s incredible. You can watch the replay—it was a hit to the chin. Unfortunately, the referees didn’t say anything," Bertans added.
