Since arriving in Leicester two years ago, Abdul Fatawu has been a revelation. The Ghanaian international lit up the Championship in his first season, tallying a stunning 20 goal contributions. Despite missing most of the Foxes’ return to the Premier League, Fatawu looks better than ever upon his return to action. Due to this, it comes as no surprise that there is interest from Premier League sides.
Leicester City Winger Among Options to Bolster Premier League Side’s Attack
Abdul Fatawu: A Move Away Still On The Cards?
As reported by Eduardo Burgos, Fulham are “exploring” Abdul Fatawu’s situation. The winger is among the Cottagers’ attacking options before deadline day, as Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze are also under consideration. Marco Silva’s side are off to a poor start in the league, with just two points from a possible nine, and a derby day defeat against Chelsea.

Burgos adds that talks have already taken place between the two sides, and as expected, City aren’t keen on letting Fatawu leave. In the Foxes’ first five fixtures, the 21-year-old has been stellar. Terrific finishes versus both Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City were key to his side picking up all three points, and firing up to fourth in the league.
Throughout the summer, City’s willingness to sell players has been well documented. Mads Hermansen, Wilfred Ndidi and James Justin are among those to have already departed, whilst Bilal El Khannouss could still follow suit. However, with Fatawu’s potential, quality at the level and desire to remain at the club, a move for him seems much more unlikely.
How Does This Affect Leicester City
As mentioned prior, Fatawu has been pivotal for Leicester this season. The explosive nature of the winger is incredibly valuable, especially when looking to beat his man one versus one. He can be the outball for Marti Cifuentes’ side and make something happen from nothing. Take the goal versus Charlton last weekend, which even led to Nathan Jones predicting a future transfer to the top flight.

In addition, finding a profile with the same energy and attributes will be incredibly difficult. Although he featured just 11 times in the Premier League, he still showed this quality. One example to suggest this is his performance away at Manchester United, where he completed 12 dribbles. Furthermore, a masterclass at St Mary’s helped City come back from 2-0 down to 3-2 in just half an hour. Following this, Gary Lineker ‘On The Rest Is Football’, described him as “really special”.
Therefore, if Leicester were to lose Fatawu, then it could derail their whole campaign. However, it seems doubtful at this stage of the window, as they would demand a major fee. PSR is no longer an issue for the Foxes, and as a result, they can demand a lucrative fee. A similar situation has taken place with El Khannouss, as the club rejected Crystal Palace’s offers. Overall, whilst a Fatawu exit would be detrimental, it’s unlikely that the two sides would agree on a deal.
