Liverpool have tabled a £35million offer for [Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi](http://Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi). The Reds, who initially proposed £35m after the Community Shield earlier this month, are also including a 10% sell-on clause in their bid.

However, the Eagles have responded with a counter proposal, having held out for £40m over the past month. They're now prepared to accept £35m upfront from Liverpool, with an additional £5m in add-ons for the Premier League favourite.

They're also actively seeking a suitable replacement. With just one year remaining on his contract, Palace are keen not to lose Guehi on a free transfer next summer. However, they recognise his value and have been holding out for the right deal, having turned down a £70m bid from Newcastle last summer.

Interestingly, one of the players Palace are eyeing as a potential Guehi replacement is Liverpool's own England defender, Joe Gomez. Palace bosses have hinted at their interest in bringing Gomez - a product of Charlton Athletic's academy - back to London, with a season-long loan deal being considered, reports the Mirror.

However, Liverpool have no plans to let him go. His versatility is viewed as a valuable asset and manager Arne Slot is reluctant to see him leave.

One issue for Palace is a disagreement over what's best for the club between its CEO, Steve Parrish, and head coach Oliver Glasner.

Despite offloading Eberechi Eze to Arsenal for a hefty £68m, Parrish has made it clear that without a new contract, they have little option but to let Guehi go at their set price in the coming days. However, Glasner is adamant that the club must retain the former Chelsea centre-back, stating: "It is not possible to find a Marc Guehi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League as a starter."

Gomez could have provided a solution in this regard, despite the injury setbacks that have somewhat hindered his progress in recent years.
