Alexa Landestoy hired as college football sideline reporter for FOX: ‘This one’s special’

Alexa Landestoy is returning to her roots when not hosting Washington Capitals games for Monumental Sports Network.

Friday, Landestoy announced on social media that she’s been hired by FOX to be a sideline reporter for college football games this season.

“This one’s special🥹 I grew up on the football sideline & I’m thrilled to announce I’m back w/ @cfbonfox 🏈,” Landestoy’s excited and heavily emoji’d message read. “Don’t worry Caps fans, @mayhockey16 is stuck w/ me😉 I’m still on @monsportsnet & @nhlnetwork, just adding another sport I love to the mix!♥️”

Landestoy’s first gig was the nationally telecast game between Auburn and Baylor, joining veteran play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti (no relation to Joe Beninati) and former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III on the broadcast.

According to a FOX Sports release, the trio will work together during the entire 2025 college football season.

“I’m honored to join the FOX Sports family and excited to celebrate the game of football while working with some of the best people in the business telling the stories that matter,” RGIII said in a statement. “My goal is to bring that authentic perspective to every broadcast, helping fans understand not just what’s happening on the field, but why it matters and what it means to the young men chasing their dreams. Teaming up with Jason Benetti, whom I greatly respect, and working alongside Alexa Landestoy will be special.”

Landestoy’s first hit came in the opening minutes of the FOX broadcast (37:25 in the below video) came from field level at McLane Stadium where she shared an incredible story about Auburn’s kicker.

“Thanks, Jason. Hey, Robert. So excited to be with you, so happy to be here,” Landestoy began. “I know that Auburn Tigers fans are going to be very happy to see their starting kicker, Alex McPherson, there on the field. If you remember last year, Auburn finished dead last in field goal percentage, but they were without McPherson for most of that time. He’s been battling chronic GI issues which caused him to lose some weight. He was a game-time decision coming into tonight. He took part in warmups. I’m hearing that his range is going to be within 20 yards and anything past that is Towns McGough. But JB, an inspiring story for a kid that loves the game of football. He wants to battle with his brothers tonight.”

As Alexa handed it back to Benetti, the play-by-play man added that McPherson “had his large intestine removed in the offseason in December to make sure he could play.”

For Landestoy, the job continues her quick rise in sports journalism and brings her back to the company and sport where she first round fame. Landestoy covered Texas Christian University’s football team in college, and worked as a sideline reporter for FOX Sports Southwest before getting signed by NBC Sports Washington.

Landestoy will have a busy schedule moving into the fall as she plans to continue her hosting work with NHL Network while also teaming up with everyone’s favorite former hockey enforcer/mullet man, Alan May, before and after Capitals games.

“I AM SO HAPPY FOR MY ALL WORLD & AMAZINGLY TALENTED BROADCAST PARTNER & BESTEST FRIEND,” Alan May said on social media.

A big fish in a small pond (hockey), the articulate, intelligent, and personable Landestoy will likely have no shortage of suitors from top broadcasting companies if she ever decides to fully focus on football.
