Ruben Amorim explains why Man Utd made hard work of Burnley win, 'we should...'

Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United made hard work of their first win of the season.

Manchester United beat Burnley 3-2 on Saturday to put an end to a winless streak since the beginning of the season.

The win will help ease some of the pressure that has mounted on Ruben Amorim, after United crashed out of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout defeat against League Two side Grimsby Town.

Josh Cullen’s own goal gave United a deserved lead before the break, but Lyle Foster equalised for Burnley just 10 minutes into the second half. United responded instantly as Bryan Mbeumo converted a low cross from Diogo Dalot.

Unfortunately, Amorim’s side let the lead slip again when Jaidon Anthony took advantage of Altay Bayindir’s shoddy goalkeeping.

It took a spot kick in stoppage time from Bruno Fernandes to secure the three points for United.

Fernandes was voted man of the match for his inspiring performance.

Ruben Amorim’s honest take on Man Utd win over Burnley

Amorim was not happy with United’s lack of control against Burnley on Saturday.

Despite securing three points for the first time this season, the United head coach was disappointed that his side overcomplicated the game, throwing away the lead twice against a beatable opponent.

United left it late to score a third goal, which made it a nervy evening for the Old Trafford faithful, who rallied behind Amorim throughout the game.

“It is three points, if you look at the game we should solve it in the first half and control the game – but we are fighting to the last minute because of things we overcomplicate,” Amorim told Premier League Productions after the match.

“Look at the first half, we have so many chances to score. You feel you can control the game. But one throw in, one set piece. I shook my head, because sometimes football is like this.

“We now have two weeks with a lot of opportunities. This was a game we had to win, but we have a lot to do.”

Amorim will be expecting to see performance levels rise after the upcoming international break. Results must improve, too.

Man Utd set new own goal record

We are three weeks into the new Premier League and United are already breaking records.

After Cullen’s own goal in the first half, United became the first side ever to see both of their first two Premier League goals scored by opposition players.

Rodrigo Muniz was responsible for putting the ball in his own net during United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham last weekend.

United fans will hope to see more of their players get on the scoresheet in the coming weeks.
