Manchester United fans have called out Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot for their reactions to the Red Devils' stoppage-time winner against Burnley on Saturday. Ruben Amorim's side led twice at Old Trafford before being pegged back on each occasion by their newly promoted visitors, making it seem certain that they were heading for yet more dropped points.
However, a controversial penalty decision allowed Fernandes to make up for his miss against Fulham last week as he rolled home from 12 yards to leave the Theatre of Dreams bouncing. But the reaction of Fernandes and some of his teammates has come under fire from fans online.
Fans Slam United Celebrations
Footage appeared online after the game of Fernandes and Dalot, two members of Amorim's leadership group, celebrating as they won a goal kick in the dying embers of the match. As the relief of not facing more Burnley pressure settled in, Dalot was seen celebrating directly in front of striker Lyle Foster, who had scored earlier in the game.
Fernandes then approached Dalot, but rather than ushering him away, he too got involved. The midfielder even went as far as to shoulder-barge Foster, who had done nothing to provoke him.
Fans were quick to comment on the footage, and were not best pleased with the Portuguese internationals. One wrote: "Embarrassing. Where’s the class?" while another followed up with: "So embarrassing, it's Burnley man calm down."
"A third added: "So shameless, all this against Burnley," while a fourth went as far as to say: "See the way we’re celebrating for beating Burnley…! My club is dead."
A fifth would go on to describe the reaction as 'cringe,' with former Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd also slamming the celebrations during an appearance on Sky Sports:
"That was embarrassing for me, I have to be honest. Why are you celebrating after a 3-2 win against Burnley? No disrespect to Burnley, but it looks like they've won some kind of trophy.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d take one look and think, 'that's the end of the season and they’ve just won the league.'"
