One of the most exciting names linked with a late move to Newcastle United is Inter Milan star Davide Frattesi.
Newcastle have reportedly spoken to Inter about Frattesi, who was tipped for a move to St James’ Park earlier this summer too.
Still, as promising an addition as Frattesi from a club of the stature of Inter could be, it seems Newcastle could be well-stocked in midfield.
Indeed, both Sandro Tonali and Joelinton appear to have avoided serious injury despite being forced off the pitch against Liverpool on Monday.
With Jacob Ramsey also through the door this summer, the midfield is looking reasonably strong.
Of course, another addition would be nice and a player of Frattesi’s profile would no doubt prove exciting.
However, it seems the rumour was a non-starter at the Inter end.

Inter Milan do not want to sell Davide Frattesi
According to The Chronicle, Inter Milan chairman Giuseppe Marotta was “baffled” by reports linking the midfielder with a move to Newcastle.

The report says Marotta was “mystified” by the rumour because the club simply do not want to sell the Italian international.
It adds that Newcastle are a lot “cooler” on the idea of signing another midfielder now there has been relatively good news on both Tonali and Joelinton.
Eddie Howe is said to be a big fan of Frattesi but the idea of him joining Newcastle in the final hours of the summer transfer window seems remote.
Eddie Howe already has what he wants at Newcastle United
Earlier this summer, Howe confirmed he wanted six central midfielders at Newcastle.
“We want six – and now we are down to four,” he said after Sean Longstaff left and Joe Willock got injured.
“So that is an issue for us and it is a position that we are looking at.”

The central midfielders in the Newcastle United squad
Following the addition of Ramsey and Willock’s good news on the injury front, the Newcastle United manager has that.
In an ideal world, Newcastle would keep strengthening. Still, there is only limited time left in this window and there are other areas upon which to focus.
The signing of Nick Woltemade is a huge boost for Newcastle but they need another striker too, regardless of what happens with Alexander Isak.
