Man Utd have agreed the sale of Alejandro Garnacho but who should they spend the money on?
The Italian transfer journalist doesn’t get everything right, however, since day one, he has been insistent on this deal happening at some point during the window. The infamous “Bomb Squad” is getting smaller by the day with Antony also expected to leave and seal his return to Real Betis. The fee being brought in by the sale of Garnacho is expected to be in the region of £40m plus add ons, the sort of money that could be put to good use elsewhere.
Who should Man Utd spend the money from Alejandro Garnacho sale on?
With the midfield still a problem, Jason Wilcox could do a lot worse than bringing an Englishman abroad back to the Premier League by using the funds from the sale of Garnacho to sign Conor Gallagher. Liked by Diego Simeone, the England international isn’t quite a regular starter and the former Chelsea midfielder will be wanting more game time ahead of the World Cup across the Atlantic next summer. If Amorim is getting backed, he needs better players for his system and Gallagher would be perfect given his athleticism and energy in the engine room.

What makes the 25-year old such a good fit is that he is ideal for the midfield role that Amorim has been trying to squeeze square pegs into. Gallagher isn’t a specific no.6 or no.8, but is more of a hybrid, capable of winning the ball back and protecting the defence, of building attacks and setting a tempo, but also of going box to box and of supporting the forward line.
Are Man United interested in Gallagher?
In a word, yes. transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has told TBR that Man Utd are one of the teams considering Gallagher and that a deadline beating move can’t be ruled out:
"Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know. The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards. West Ham are obviously inquiring about every midfielder on the planet. They seem to be interested in Conor Gallagher. Palace love him. He’s got that history there. It’s an interesting one.
“Don’t rule Newcastle out of this either, especially since they’ve lost Joelinton and Sandro Tonali (to injuries). If they lost Bissouma, could Tottenham come into it? Possibly. I’d keep an eye on Newcastle, and I think there are quite a lot of Premier League clubs interested in him. I wouldn’t rule Everton out either. I think half the Premier League have inquired about him, asked about him. Manchester United will be aware of him too.”
