He was stood down for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup second round win over Mansfield Town as the prospect of his departure grew increasingly likely.

Rangers initially reached out to David Moyes’ side about taking Chermiti on an initial loan as they look to bolster their squad before Monday’s transfer deadline.

But talks have now progressed to a permanent deal which will see the 21-year-old departing after little more than two years spent in the blue half of Merseyside.

The Scottish Premiership outfit are on the lookout for a new marksman in the wake of Hamza Igamane joining Lille on Friday, just 24 hours before the window shuts.

Everton’s former director of football Kevin Thelwell has led negotiations on Chermiti’s move to Glasgow, which could generate up to £10M overall.

The striker made 25 appearances in all competitions but failed to score in any.
