Alejandro Garnacho Joins Chelsea From Manchester United In£40M Deal

Alejandro Garnacho has made a big move from Manchester United to Chelsea. He signed a long-term contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2032. The Argentina international, who is widely thought to be one of the best young players in the Premier League, joins the reigning world champions for about £40 million. United also included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal.

People saw the winger in the directors’ box at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham before the news was made official. For Chelsea, this move is both a statement of intent and a big win, as they get a player with proven top-flight experience and room to grow.

Garnacho said he was happy with his choice to move:

“My family and I are so happy to be a part of this great club. I’m so excited to get started. I watched the Club World Cup, and it’s special to be on the same team as the world champions. We’re the best team in the world! I’m so happy to be here. It’s amazing.”

Garnacho played for Manchester United 144 times, scoring 26 goals. He won the EFL Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup in 2023-24, making him one of the most successful academy graduates at Old Trafford in recent years.

The 21-year-old is expected to fit right into Enzo Maresca’s attack at Chelsea, and he could make his debut against Brentford on September 13. The Blues are also changing their plans up front because Nicolas Jackson could be staying at the club after Liam Delap’s hamstring injury stopped his planned loan to Bayern Munich.

The Chelsea rebuild doesn’t seem to be slowing down

Chelsea have been one of the most active teams in the 2025 summer transfer window. They have added a mix of established players and up-and-coming stars to Enzo Maresca’s team. Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million move from Manchester United has become the biggest news story, but he is not the only new player at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues got stronger up front by signing Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30 million and João Pedro from Brighton for up to £60 million. Jamie Gittens, a winger for Borussia Dortmund, also joined for about £52 million. Estevao Willian, a young star from Palmeiras, finally came in a deal worth up to £49 million.

Ajax were paid £35.5 million for Jorrel Hato and the Blues paid Strasbourg £12 million for Mamadou Sarr. Sporting’s Dario Essugo joined the midfield for £18 million, and Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez officially joined before being loaned to Strasbourg.
