Eagles GM Predicted To Be Unlikely To Make Another ‘Big Move’

The general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, Howie Roseman, is well-known as a “wheeler-dealer” type; a man who loves to make trades and deals every single off – and during even many regular seasons.

Over the past three months, the Eagles have traded away edge rusher, Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers; acquired cornerback, Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders; bought in offensive tackle, Fred Johnson from the Jaguars whilst sending fellow OT, Darian Kinnard to the Packers; and also traded for both Texans receiver, John Metchie III, and Vikings backup quarterback, Sam Howell.

Some still wonder whether the long-time GM has one (or multiple) trick(s) up his sleeve ahead of, or during the season.

Eagles Could Be Done For Big Moves For The Time Being

Yet Anthony DiBona of The Philly Special believes the most likely outcome is that Roseman does not make another big trade.

DiBona states that “we’ll see” if Roseman has one more play at the ready.

“Eagles GM Howie Roseman’s work is far from over, as he continues to make moves along the edges of the active roster and practice squad. Could Roseman have a big move in the works? We’ll see.”

But when asked specifically if “Howie” has any more moves in the pipeline, DiBona’s guess lies in the negative.

“I’ve learned to never doubt Roseman in recent years, yet I’d lean towards no.” DiBona wrote on Saturday. “The Eagles seem focused on improving the depth on the roster ahead of Week 1, which is why we have seen so many reported practice squad signings.”

Eagles May Still Look To Add More Talent On The Practice Squad And At Corner

DiBona did note that the Philadelphia GM has been collecting mid-round draft picks who didn’t make the cut from other teams, and signing them to the practice squad as high-upside talents.

This is somewhat similar to what they’ve done with other players like tackle, Mekhi Becton, who signed with the team in 2024 after a difficult start to his career with the Jets, only to then be converted into one of the more lethal run-blocking guards in football last season.

“Roseman is obsessed with giving late day two or early day three picks a second chance in Philadelphia. That’s why you’re seeing the Eagles reportedly signing Audric Estime, Javon Baker and Ambry Thomas.”

However, DiBona argues that if Philly did decide to make a move, it would probably be at cornerback; where the team have still not quite figured out who their guy is at the second outside CB spot.

“The Eagles like to bet on the culture in their building getting the most of players that may have underwhelmed elsewhere. I’ll continue to keep my eye on CB as a position where the Eagles could make a splash, but maybe that’ll happen closer to the trade deadline.”
