Liverpool star: Arsenal are Premier League title favourites

Mohamed Salah has called Arsenal the favourites to win the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s game at Anfield against Liverpool.

Speaking this week ahead of Liverpool’s match against Arsenal, Mohamed Salah argued that Sunday’s visitors are this season’s favourites to win the Premier League.

“I’ve said it a few times, today and also at the PFA awards,” Salah began. “I say that [Arsenal] are the favourites because they have a team play together for five, six years, so they understand each other’s game, and they have a manager also with the team for five, six years.

“So when the team has stuck together for that long, they know each other’s game, so it becomes easier for them. Other teams like us and City are changing a lot of players, which is sometimes tricky.

“My opinion this year is Arsenal number one.”

Though compliments are always welcome, it’s perhaps a bit of a stretch to suggest that Arsenal’s team has been completely settled ahead of the current campaign.

Last week’s team against Leeds contained three summer signings, with one more coming off the bench. With Bukayo Saka’s injury, it’s likely another summer signing in Eberechi Eze will be in the team this week.

On top of that there are all the young players who only made their breakthrough in the last 12 months, like Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Max Dowman.

The central defensive partnership of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have been together for a while now, and Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli have all been in the team for a few years too.

But the rest of the squad have only joined in the last two or three seasons, not quite the “five, six” that Salah referenced.

Even so, Arsenal fans will hope the platform built over the last few campaigns will allow this summer’s seven or eight signings to settle quickly and hit the ground running.

Whether the Gunners are the current favourites is debatable, but the team certainly have a chance this season.
