Hugo Ekitike looking to match 133-year Liverpool record vs. Arsenal

Hugo Ekitike will need to be at his best against a strong Arsenal defence this weekend, with the Frenchman matching a 123-year record if he scores.

The Reds host the Gunners in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, in a big early-season title battle.

Victory for either would see them head into the international break with their 100 percent record intact.

Ekitike has scored against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Newcastle so far this season, and he is within touching distance of a great achievement.

Should the Frenchman find the net at Anfield, he would become the first Liverpool player since John Miller in 1892/93 to score in his opening four games for the club.

Expect goals… and a draw?

Liverpool have failed to score in only one of the last 44 Premier League outings.

That came in the 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest at Anfield almost a year ago, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring the only goal of the game.

Each of the last three league encounters on Merseyside have ended in draws, which is a record between the clubs at Anfield.

Four of the last five league meetings home and away have failed to produce a winner.

Only against Everton (26) have Liverpool drawn more Premier League games than Arsenal.

Salah chasing four different records!

Mohamed Salah needs one goal to equal Roberto Firmino’s club record of 11 league strikes against Arsenal.

The 33-year-old also needs two goals at Anfield to move into fourth place on the club’s all-time list, alongside Billy Liddell on 137.

Salah’s next goal will see him move into fourth place on the Premier League’s all-time scorers list, too, taking him to 188 – one more than Andy Cole.

Meanwhile, his next successful penalty in the league will make him Liverpool’s record scorer from the spot in their league history.

It will be Salah’s 35th, overtaking Liddell’s tally of 34 in the process.

Arsenal are undefeated in the last six league meetings with Liverpool – their longest run against the Reds since a sequence of eight between 2007 and 2011.

That said, they have not won in the last 12 league trips to Anfield, drawing five and losing seven.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 22 league fixtures (13 wins, nine draws) against any of the other ‘Big Six’ clubs, stretching back to April 2023 and a defeat at Man City.

In each of the last six league meetings, the Gunners have scored inside the opening 15 minutes, and in four of those, Liverpool conceded within nine minutes of kick-off.

The Reds are undefeated in the last 12 league meetings with Arsenal at Anfield, and could equal the club record of 13 between December 1975 and January 1988.
