Ranking the top 50 quarterbacks in NFL history…
5. Patrick Mahomes
Drafted 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 out of Texas Tech University, Mahomes sat his rookie year behind Alex Smith before exploding onto the scene.
In his first full season as starter (2018), Mahomes threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, earning NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. He has led the Chiefs to eight straight playoff appearances, including four Super Bowl trips, winning three (LIV, LVII, LVIII) and earning Super Bowl MVP each time—throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns in the 2024 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
His 2022 season was another MVP year with 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns. Despite a Super Bowl LV loss in 2020, Mahomes has orchestrated numerous comebacks, including a 24-point rally in the 2019 playoffs.

Through the 2024 season, Mahomes’ totals include 32,352 passing yards, 245 touchdowns and 64 interceptions in 112 games, with 2,643 rushing yards and 14 scores. He set a record with 79 touchdown passes in his first 32 games and ranks top-10 all-time in passer rating. Mahomes has seven Pro Bowl nods, two first-team All-Pro selections and two MVPs.
Mahomes’ standout attributes are his elite arm strength for off-platform throws, exceptional creativity, and mental toughness under pressure. He also boasts uncommon mobility and accuracy on the run.
He’s revolutionary player who uses no-look passes, side-arm flings and play-extending scrambles that blend poise with high-risk flair. While occasional interceptions stem from aggressiveness, his decision-making has matured, fueling historic postseason success.
