The New England Patriots offense doesn’t have a shortage of players who have been impressive this preseason. Names like Will Campbell, Jared Wilson, and Garrett Bradbury all come to mind. Yet, no player has generated more buzz this preseason than RB TreVeyon Henderson, who scored a pair of touchdowns in his first three games of NFL preseason action.

Henderson’s standout preseason performances have given one NFL writer enough conviction to boldly predict the Ohio State product is in for a big rookie year.

Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson Predicted to Rush for Over 1,000 Yards in 2025

Despite the appearance of a potential running back by committee approach with other talented backs on the roster, Chad Graff of The Athletic believes TreVeyon Henderson will finish the year as the Patriots’ leading rusher in 2025.

Graff wrote, “The Patriots have a crowded backfield with Henderson, their second-round pick, joining established backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. From the outside, it has all the makings of another Patriots running back rotation. Except for the part where Henderson looks like easily the team’s best offensive weapon. He has outperformed both Stevenson and Gibson in practice. He has a speed they can’t match. And he has impressed Patriots brass with his ability to run between the tackles, not just to the outside. Look for Henderson to become a star.”

Henderson has looked like an impact player with star potential throughout the preseason. His 100-yard kickoff return for a score in his NFL debut flashed his dynamic playmaking ability in space. The Patriots’ offense was among the least-explosive units in the league, which means Henderson adds an element to this group that they simply didn’t have last year.

Could TreVeyon Henderson be a Fantasy Football Breakout Star in 2025?

Graff isn’t the only believer in a breakout year for Henderson. Field Yates of ESPN also sees the path for Henderson having a big rookie season in 2025.

“After the Patriots took Henderson early in the second round of this year’s draft, one of my first thoughts was: he could be this year’s Bucky Irving. Not because their frames or games are identical, but rather that each was drafted to a team that had a starter in place, and that Henderson would surpass Rhamondre Stevenson like Irving did Rachaad White last season,” wrote Yates. “Henderson gives the Patriots some desperately needed burst out of the backfield plus high-level receiving ability. He showed off that high-level, big-play ability with a 100-yard kickoff return in the team’s first preseason game, and later on looked like the team’s best ball carrier as well.”

Rhamondre Stevenson is all that stands in the way of Henderson seeing north of 200 total touches in 2025, and Stevenson is coming off of a year where he failed to top 3.9 yards per carry over his 207 rushing attempts.

Additionally, the offensive line received a major facelift this offseason by adding a veteran free agent center and spending two earlier picks in the 2025 NFL Draft to bolster the unit in front of quarterback Drake Maye, which should also help raise the ceiling of this running game.

If Stevenson doesn’t make a compelling case through the first month of the season that he should be seeing the majority of the work in the Patriots’ backfield, then don’t be surprised if Henderson makes this prediction come true.
