Dominik Szoboszlai has explained how Liverpool would not have beaten Arsenal if Trent Alexander-Arnold was still at the club.

A tense title-race clash at Anfield was settled by the midfielder's stunning 32-yard free kick deep into the second half, with chances otherwise at a premium.

It was a moment of magic enough to secure three huge points to move to the top of the Premier League table and keep Arsenal in their shadow.

And speaking after the game, Szoboszlai confirmed that without Alexander-Arnold's summer exit to Real Madrid he would never have had the chance to take the free kick.

"Luckily, we could practice some free-kicks," he told Sky Sports. "I felt this was a bit further. I was like 'I'll take the risk'. I was confident in myself, I tried it... finally [I've scored from a free-kick].

"When you practice all the time, now I should mention Trent because he was taking the free-kicks in the past. Finally I could have my chance and did it."

He added: "This shot I didn't practice in the past few weeks because we were shooting closer. I had to take a risk and shoot a little bit harder because I knew Raya likes to jump behind the ball. He's an unbelievable goalkeeper. If it goes a bit more inside he saves it."
