Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal close to deal to sign 'elite' star, he's already in London

Arsenal are in the final stages of sealing Piero Hincapie’s move from Bayer Leverkusen on deadline day, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Emirates side are reportedly exchanging documents with Leverkusen for the 'elite' Ecuadorian defender’s arrival, with the move set to be announced in the coming hours.

Hincapie has already travelled to London following his last game as a Leverkusen player, in which he was left on the bench for the club’s 3-3 draw at Werder Bremen.

Romano, writing on X, revealed that Arsenal and Leverkusen are exchanging documents for Hincapie’s move, with the Ecuadorian defender already in London on deadline day:

Hincapie is set to become Arsenal’s eighth signing of a busy summer, during which the club have spent around £250m on new arrivals.

The Ecuadorian defender, who joined Leverkusen from Argentine side CA Talleres in 2021, made 116 appearances during his time in Germany, scoring five goals.

Hincapie helped Leverkusen lift the league and cup double in 2022/23 under manager Xabi Alonso and now looks set to follow a host of first-team stars out the door, with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Granit Xhaka departing this summer.
