Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal for Eberechi Eze's replacement after seeing off competition from Aston Villa and Sunderland

Christantus Uche is undergoing a deadline day medical at Crystal Palace with the Eagles closing in on the signing of the Nigerian from La Liga side Getafe.

The report notes that Aston Villa and Sunderland have been beaten to the deal by Palace with an agreement over a fee of around £17.3m. He has been a transfer ‘priority’ for Palace following the exit of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal. A number of clubs other than Villa and Sunderland were also said to hold an interest.

Uche has scored five goals and provided eight assists for the club in 41 appearances for Getafe and can offer versatility across the front line for Oliver Glasner. He has made three appearances in La Liga this season and opened the campaign with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo earlier this month.

Crystal Palace eye more deadline day deals

It looks set to be an extremely-busy day at Palace, with the club aiming to secure deals to bring central defenders Jaydee Canvot and Igor Jesus to Selhurst Park. Those additions could have a direct impact on Marc Guehi’s future.

The England international has been the subject of two bids from the Reds this summer but the Eagles have not yet accepted or rejected the latest offer, which arrived on Saturday night. Glasner is desperate to keep Guehi despite the player entering the final 12 months of his contract at the club.

He does not plan to pen fresh terms, which has the potential to put Glasner at odds with chairman Steve Parish as the club supremo may believe letting Guehi leave for a fee is better than losing him for nothing next summer.
